Nika Merkuryeva

Nika is a young artist who specializes in tapestry, graphics and abstract painting.

Nika was born in Moscow in 1987, got professional education in interior design, industrial design and handmade decoration.

In 2017 she took part in the international exhibition “Colours of humanity”. Later she was nominated for decorative art as the best master.

Tapestry is Nika’s passion. She creates handmade rugs with different experimental things: adding different materials, combining unusual shapes. She strives to make the tapestry not just a decorative panel, but a useful tactile piece. Such a tapestry can become a floor lamp, a lamp (if you add stained glass), a screen and even a safe.

“Graphics for me are about thinking. I endow my works with history, symbols, wishes (in graphic form), and amulet properties. I like to come up with a composition, think about the significance of a particular line, draw a fancy pattern and tell a story.”

“I call my trend “meditation paintings.” This means mere painting with your soul, putting paints on the canvas the way you want. At first I created these paintings for myself, simply because I liked it. It was a way of transforming emotions. Then I showed the pictures to my friends. I received feedback and presented them at my exhibition. I like to create paintings that can be looked at. I never tell what is depicted in the picture: let it be for everyone their own world, their own dreams and fantasies. These are pictures about the inner state, about the harmony of the soul and about thoughts. These are paintings about dreams and peace. Pictures that you can relax looking at.”
